Today is Day Five of “The Respect Dare” and we are challenged to watch our tongues.
“My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry” ~ James 1:19 NIV
Oh boy, do I ever have a big mouth! I often find it difficult to just be quiet and not have to make sure my opinion/wisdom/point of view is heard. But this is also an area that The Lord has been dealing with me tremendously on.
When I feel that I must have my way and prove that it is right, I am being prideful and arrogant. I am also not allowing The Lord to be my banner and go before me to make my way straight.
I have been working hard on taking more time to think through my emotionally charged responses and just be quiet and wait for The Lord to tell me to speak. I have truly felt The Lord grow the respect that I feel for my husband by watching him flourish without my direction or admonitions.
Almighty God, there is nothing impossible with you and I am so grateful that You have already been working on this area in my heart. I pray that you would continue to show me where I can improve and do more listening.
I also pray for the precious women who are doing this study right now to have softened hearts and open ears. Let them see all that You are capable of doing when they are willing to choose more listening and less anger. Show them that it doesn’t mean that they are being walked on, but instead that you are able to walk them through these times without being prideful and rebellious.
Jesus, help each of us to have greater love, respect, and self control.
In Jesus’ Name… Amen!
