Today is Day Thirty-nine of “The Respect Dare” and we are discussing forgiveness.
“For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” ~ Matthew 6:14 NIV
Oh my, that story was hard for me to read. It touches an area that is very personal for me. I am able to walk in forgiveness today because I know how much the Lord has forgiven me. And, what He allowed in my past has only served to make up a large part of who I am today and how I am able to serve Him.
I find that when people struggle with forgiveness, they don’t fully understand the forgiveness we receive as Christians. The Word says that He casts our sins as far as the East is from the West and remembers them no more (Psalm 103:12; Jeremiah 31:34). We are called to be imitators of Christ. We are to forgive others as we also have been forgiven.
I am able to forgive much because I know how much I have been forgiven. What is holding you back from forgiving your husband? God knows how much we are going to continue to sin and yet He still forgives us. Who are we to believe that we have the right to do anything less?
Today, let go of that unforgiveness and trust Jesus with it all. Lean on Him and thank Him for all that He has forgiven you of and ask Him to help you to be more and more like Him.
Heavenly Father, I know that I am chief among sinners and without You I am worthy of nothing more than death and eternal damnation. Thank You for your forgiveness, love, and mercy. Thank You for showing me how important it is to forgive others and helping me to do it daily.
In Jesus’ Name… Amen!
