Today is Day Twenty-five of “The Respect Dare” and we are going to talk about assumptions.
“To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kind-hearted, and humble in spirit; not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.” ~ 1 Peter 3:8-9 NASB
It is common today to judge someone based on assumptions we’ve made with the limited information we know or have heard. Too often, we fail to offer grace or mercy because we think we’ve got it all figured out. The thing is, we don’t. The only one who truly knows another person’s heart is Christ. We don’t walk in their shoes or even on the same path as they do. Yet, we are quick to judge others because “we wouldn’t have handled things that way” or “we wouldn’t have made that mistake”.
In the same way, it is too easy for us to pass judgement on our husbands without knowing all the details. The Lord freely gives us grace. Who are we to withhold it from our men or even others around us?
Today, as you go about your day, try to take extra time to understand your husband’s intent instead of making assumptions. Ask questions to clarify your understanding and then be fully willing to offer grace and the heart of a servant. Be consistent about thinking the best.
Heavenly Father, I pray that my heart would be softened and my eyes and ears would be open to see the best in my husband. Help me to always give him the benefit of a doubt and to trust him with my heart. I thank You for giving him wisdom and discernment and a heart that loves me second only to You.
In Jesus’ Name… Amen!
