Today is Day Twenty-three of “The Respect Dare” and we are taking a look at how we can help our husbands accomplish their dreams.
“Let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.” ~ 1 Peter 3:4 NASB
Even in today’s economy, I have only met a couple of men who would be content to lay around while their wives did everything to provide for the family. It is a biblical command for husbands to provide for their family and also a god-given drive.
However, I must say that it is becoming harder and harder for our men to rise to the challenge when we are so willing to stampede over them to “help” provide, or even worse, to prove that we don’t need them to provide for us because we can do it ourselves. Too many of us women have no idea how rewarding it can be to be those damsels in distress that our shining knights can come to the rescue of. What’s that you said? You don’t need a man to rescue you?!? hrmmpfff… I think we need to see what God has to say about this.
“You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.” ~ 1 Peter 3:7
God calls us the “someone weaker”. He designed us to be the feminine and softer ones. We are also the ones who were deceived in the garden. This is NOT a slight! This is a glorious calling and privilege. So, enjoy being pampered and cherished. And, spur your husband on as your very own Prince Charming!
Now, I know there are many women who have a need to work. There is no condemnation in Christ. Only He knows your heart and circumstances. But, even in that situation you can treat your husband as the King of his castle and encourage him as your Knight. Because, truthfully it is God who is our great provider.
Have you ever taken the opportunity to celebrate a success of your husband? A friend of mine online recommended a “Stones of Remembrance” journal for recording the many times that the Lord has moved in mighty ways in your home. Perhaps there is something you could make or gift your husband as a Stone of Remembrance for one of his successes (or his success in general). How would you deal with his response if it was less than enthusiastic?
Today, seek to live for the audience of One. Pay attention to pleasing the Lord instead of seeking earthly reward. Encourage younger women around you to be the kind of wives that you wish you had always been. Be the kind of Titus 2 older woman example that you wish you had in your life all along. And, encourage your Prince Charming and help polish his armor so that the enemy is blinded when he is out fighting for your family.
Heavenly Father, I am so incredibly blessed to have the most handsome prince charming there is. I know that he was chosen just for me and I was chosen just for him. Please help me to always spur him on towards You. Thank you for letting me pray over and shine his armor for daily use.
Lord, I pray that the sword of Your Word would be well known and appropriately used by my husband. I thank you for giving him a hunger for Your Word and time spent with You.
Thank You for providing for our family each and every day. And thank you for blessing my husband with this incredible job that he loves after years of serving faithfully in jobs that were daily struggles for him. Continue to use him in mighty ways for Your kingdom.
I also pray that You would bless our farm and give my husband clear vision about Your future plans for us here. Help him to be given the direction that we are to take and to walk in faith.
Thank you for this opportunity to serve you through this study.
In Jesus’ Name… Amen!
